Joseph Long Lehn (1798-1892) from Clay Township, Lancaster County, Pa. Known for his paint-decorated egg and saffron cups, his painted and decal ornamented sewing boxes are much more difficult to find. This excellent example is in the original Spanish brown base paint, blue/mustard/red framing around the floral decals on the lid and front and around the decals on the side which depict a woman. Applied molding around base also paint decorated. Dovetailed box, turned feet and original key. Interior with removable tray in the original salmon and mustard pinstripe paint. Includes a nice collection of sewing tools, pincushions, needles and thread. An excellent example. 7 1/2"H x 11 1/2"W x 7 1/4"D Very good.
