Wilhelm Schimmel (?-1890) carved and painted seated squirrel with cross-hatched tail, holding a nut in his claws. Purchased from the Sotheby's auction of the Mr. & Mrs. James O Keene collection in 1997. According to the catalog, this squirrel was exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Arts in February, 1953 and at the Henry Ford Museum in May, 1956. 5"H Original surface. Wear to the nose, ears, tail, knee and base.
