Imperial German Model 1898 quill-back sword bayonet manufactured by Simson & Co. of Suhl, Germany for use with the Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle. Features the distinctive long quill-back steel blade with fullers, wood grip panels, and curved quillon. Blade is clearly marked "SIMSON & CO. SUHL" at the ricasso, with additional Imperial and serial markings present on the hilt. Accompanied by its long black scabbard with metal fittings. Good overall condition with age-appropriate wear, scratches, oxidation and patina to the metal surfaces and wear to the scabbard. Overall length 26"; blade 20 1/2".
