This large antique German bisque head child doll is a classic collaboration between manufacturers Simon & Halbig and Heinrich Handwerck. The bisque socket head is incised with the marks DEP and H, as well as mold 109 and size number 16. The doll features blue glass sleep eyes with painted lashes, feathered brows, an open mouth with four porcelain teeth, and pierced ears with red bead earrings. According to the current owner, the doll retains its original light brown hair wig and presentation clothing. The fully jointed wood and composition body bears the characteristic red Handwerck stamp on the lower back. The elaborate outfit consists of a multi-tiered white lace dress over cotton undergarments with eyelet embroidery, knit socks, and cream leather shoes with pom-pom decorations. Height: 28 inches. The bisque head is in good condition with no visible cracks or restorations. The sleep eyes are functional. The composition body shows expected age-related crazing and finish wear at the joints, including a material loss at the heel area of the right foot. The original clothing is well-preserved with typical light toning consistent with age.
