Offered is a 1955 U.S. Proof Set, featuring five classic United States Proof coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The set includes a Lincoln Wheat Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Franklin Half Dollar. Please review the photos for the exact packaging and condition of the coins included. The 1955 Proof Set is an especially interesting issue because it marked a major transition in U.S. Mint Proof Set packaging. Early 1955 sets were sold in the traditional individual cellophane packaging and cardboard box, while later sets were packaged together in the newly introduced Pliofilm "flat pack." Approximately 378,200 sets were produced. The dime, quarter, and Franklin Half Dollar in the set were struck in 90% silver, adding approximately 0.6148 troy ounces of silver to the complete set.
