An attractive antique wrought iron fireplace fender or hearth guard, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, fashioned with a long rectangular iron rail supporting a rhythmic series of hand-forged serpentine loops that create a bold undulating pattern across the front. Upright standards positioned at the ends and intervals are surmounted by spherical ball finials, while the short returning sides terminate in large open scrolls, giving the piece an appealing architectural silhouette when positioned along the front of a fireplace hearth. The combination of square-section structural bars, rounded forged scrollwork, and simple geometric finials reflects the restrained decorative metalwork favored in Victorian, Arts & Crafts, and early 20th-century interiors. The dark blackened finish has developed an attractive aged surface, enhancing the handcrafted character of the iron. Condition is good overall for age with scattered oxidation, surface rust, rubbing, scratches, finish loss, and general patination throughout, along with minor irregularities and wear consistent with longstanding hearth use; the structure appears substantially intact from the photographs. Antique and vintage wrought iron fireplace fenders remain actively collected as both functional hearth accessories and decorative architectural elements, with examples varying considerably according to scale and complexity .Measures 7"H x 48.5"W x 12.5"D.
