A striking pair of antique narrow three-quarter carved mahogany bed frames, each featuring a broad paneled headboard veneered in richly figured flame mahogany and framed by exceptionally elaborate turned and carved posts. The tall posts are worked with a succession of foliate-carved balusters, fluted and lobed elements, molded collars, carved geometric blocks, and bold pineapple-form finials, while the footboards incorporate substantial horizontal rails composed of repeating turned, leaf-carved, and gadrooned elements between monumental corner posts. The headboards display dramatic bookmatched figuring with gently rounded upper corners and incised spiral details, lending the pair a strong Classical and Victorian decorative presence. Both beds retain their wooden side rails and caster-mounted feet and form an impressive matched bedroom suite, with their uncommon narrow three-quarter proportions adding particular interest for collectors of period bedroom furniture. Condition is fair to good for age with extensive expected wear, including scratches, abrasions, finish loss, edge wear, scattered chips and losses, and rubbing throughout; notably, cracking and separation are visible at portions of the headboard-to-post joints, including an apparent old repair, and the headboard veneers show scratches, age lines, and small surface losses. The side rails exhibit substantial rubbing and finish wear, particularly along their upper surfaces, and the frames would benefit from stabilization and restoration prior to regular use. Headboard measures 64"H x 48"W and the mattress space measures 76"H x 42"W.
