This is a mid-century architectural view depicting a narrow canal in Venice, Italy, executed on a narrow, vertical canvas panel. Painted in a striking monochromatic palette using a mixed-media technique of oil wash, ink, or heavily thinned watercolor, the artwork captures a gondola passing beneath a high stone footbridge framed by tall Venetian palazzi. The painting bears an unidentified artist's signature followed by an abbreviated date (likely "'59" or "'69") in the lower right corner. The reverse of the raw canvas features handwritten graphite inscriptions that appear to reference locations and inventory or studio marks in Venice, including what appears to read "Fondamenta (Museo Ca' Pesaro)", "S. MARCO", and the abbreviation "Ve" for Venezia, though some of the handwriting is difficult to definitively decipher. The piece is housed in a mid-century giltwood frame with a wide, textured linen mat and a slender inner gold fillet under glass. While the artwork itself is in excellent vintage condition on its original canvas, the vintage frame shows mild age-related wear, including minor scuffs, light surface scratches, and a few small flea bites to the gilded finish. Sight measures approx. 23"x. 7.5". Frame measures 28.5" x 13".
