RARE Late 19th century English dress cane featuring a rare Thomas Webb & Sons cameo glass spherical handle, the deep ruby red ground overlaid in white and finely carved with scrolling foliate and floral decoration in high relief, the crisp leaf and blossom details standing out beautifully against the translucent red body; the handle is mounted in a polished brass collar above a richly toned dark hardwood shaft, terminating in a brass ferrule with original rubber tip, the shaft exhibiting a deep reddish-brown color with subtle grain and a warm aged patina; although unsigned, many early and smaller round examples by Webb were left unmarked, and the quality of carving and coloration is consistent with the firm’s late 19th century production; overall condition shows surface scratches and light handling wear to the glass and shaft commensurate with age, minor scuffing to the brass mounts, but no major chips or structural damage observed, presenting as a highly decorative and collectible example of English cameo glass mounted as a gentleman’s dress cane. Measures 34.75" Tall.
