A fine 19th century gentleman’s cane crafted entirely of carved and polished bone, featuring an L-form handle above a distinctive spiral twist “barber pole” shaft that transitions into a smooth lower section, the natural cream coloration having developed an appealing aged patina with darker striations and handling wear that accentuate the carved detail, the form and material suggestive of maritime or nautical associations often seen in sailor-made or scrimshaw-related walking sticks, with the original ferrule intact at the tip; condition shows notable age-related wear including visible cracking and separation to the handle consistent with natural bone shrinkage, surface scratches, discoloration, and general handling wear throughout, all in keeping with its 19th century origin while retaining strong decorative and collectible appeal. Measures 34.25" Tall.
