Large Blue & White Ceramic Octopus Vase / Planter

Large sculptural ceramic vessel of dramatic marine-inspired design, formed with a tall flared and undulating rim over a tapering body covered in a highly textured white glaze punctuated throughout with minute perforation-like dimples. The exterior is dominated by an exceptionally dimensional modeled octopus rendered in mottled cobalt, navy, gray, and cream glazes, its bulbous head rising prominently from the surface while numerous curling tentacles wrap broadly around the body in deep relief, each articulated with individually modeled suction cups. The contrast between the restrained white ground and richly glazed blue octopus gives the piece a striking contemporary coastal character, while the irregular mouth and substantial scale enhance its sculptural presence. Interior displays subtle horizontal throwing or forming lines beneath a glossy white glaze. The underside is unmarked and fitted with protective felt pads. Condition appears generally good with light surface wear, minor glaze irregularities and scattered marks consistent with manufacture and handling; no major structural damage is evident from the photographs. Comparable contemporary studio-pottery octopus vessels appear periodically in the secondary market, including handmade blue octopus-decorated examples offered through specialty art-pottery auctions.
