An expressionist figurative work in oil pastel on paper by the artist Ray Robinson (born 1931), titled Back to Back and dated 1982. The composition features two heavily abstracted figures rendered with a thick, gestural application of pastel, creating a dense, textured surface. The central figure is depicted in olive green and charcoal tones, seated against a horizontal band of vibrant cobalt blue. The piece is presented in a gold-toned wooden frame behind glass with a wide white mount. A gallery label from Galerie Dresdnere, Toronto, is affixed to the reverse, identifying the artist, title, medium, date, and dimensions. Dimensions (sight size from label): 16 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches Frame dimensions (approximate, measured against tape measure): 62.2 cm x 53.3 cm. Condition: The work appears to be in sound condition. There is some light staining or foxing visible on the lower right corner of the mount. The frame shows minor surface abrasions and small losses to the gilt finish, particularly at the corners.
