A mid-century modern studio still life, oil on stretched canvas, by Armand Rossi. The composition depicts a seated female nude figurine atop a dark block, positioned next to a tall green glass bottle with a cork stopper. The foreground features two red apples and a shallow blue ceramic bowl arranged on a wooden tabletop, with the edges of other canvases visible in the background. The work is rendered in a tonal palette of greys, blues, and ochres using broad impasto brushwork. The painting is signed and dated Armand Rossi '62 in white paint to the lower right corner. The wooden stretcher bears several pencil notations including 3892, 18x24, and 505/2. The work is housed in a cream-painted wooden frame with a foliate carved border. Dimensions (approximate, measured against a tape measure): Frame H 73.7 cm x W 62.2 cm (29 in x 24.5 in). Canvas size (per stretcher notation): 45.7 cm x 61.0 cm (18 in x 24 in). Condition: The paint surface displays craquelure throughout, most notably in the background areas. A large tide mark is visible on the reverse of the canvas. The frame shows age-related cracking and minor losses to the gesso and paint finish, with small areas of exposed wood at the carved mouldings and corners.
