An abstract composition by Eric Pehap (Estonian Canadian 1912-1981), executed in paint mixed media on a tan paper or light cardboard support. The work features a radial splatter design, with a central core of black and green paint radiating outwards in streaks of blue, red, and white. The application shows varying depths of paint, with areas of high-gloss impasto. The piece is signed and dated Eric Pehap '69 in black ink at the lower right. It is presented in a modernist chrome-finished metal frame with a wide off-white mount under glass. The reverse of the frame is finished with brown cardboard and includes a handwritten pencil inscription reading (Eric Pehap 1912-1981) Abstract RCA and a mark in white chalk reading POKE. Pehap was an Estonian-born painter who settled in Canada and became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Frame: H approx. 61.6 cm x W approx. 47.0 cm Image: H approx. 46.4 cm x W approx. 30.5 cm (Note: measurements converted to centimetres from an inch-scale tape measure). Condition: The paint surface appears stable and well-preserved, with no visible flaking or loss to the impasto. The paper support shows no signs of foxing, discolouration, or mechanical damage. The chrome frame is in good condition with light surface scuffing commensurate with age. The mount is clean and the glazing is intact.
