AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage two-piece Gourmet-Topf terra cotta clay baker and covered roaster, Model 222, made in the United States in 1980. Measures approximately 10" to 11" long, 7" wide and 6" tall with the fitted cover in place. The oval casserole consists of a deep roasting base and domed cover, both formed in natural reddish terra cotta. The underside of the cover is molded Gourmet-Topf, while the base carries the full factory designation GOURMET-TOPF INC. ~ MADE IN U.S.A. ~ © 1980 ~ 222. Molded relief decoration encircles the exterior, presenting a broad country harvest and farmyard composition. The cover includes flying ducks or geese above fields of corn, together with a turkey amid leafy vegetation. The lower vessel continues the rural theme with fish, poultry, corn and other food motifs. The fitted side tabs serve as practical lifting grips when separating the two sections. The lower interior is finished with a smooth dark-brown glaze and a raised ribbed roasting platform designed to elevate food slightly above accumulated juices. The cover remains unglazed, allowing the porous clay to absorb moisture and release steam gradually during cooking. This traditional clay roasting method surrounds food with gentle, moist heat and is suited for roasting, braising, bread baking and one-pot preparation of meat, poultry, fish and vegetables.
