AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Van Briggle Pottery tall Iris vase standing 9-1/4" tall, measuring approximately 3-1/2" in diameter across the shoulder and weighing 1-3/4 pounds. The slender, gently tapered form is molded in low relief with stylized iris blossoms emerging near the shoulder and long, sweeping leaves extending diagonally around the body. The floral treatment reflects the organic, flowing design vocabulary of the American Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements, with the ornament integrated directly into the vessel rather than applied as separate decoration. Finished in a softly textured matte glaze transitioning from muted blue across the lower body to lavender and dusky violet around the upper portion. The restrained coloration and velvety surface are characteristic of the matte glazes for which Van Briggle became internationally recognized. Artus Van Briggle developed the pottery’s distinctive matte finishes after studying European ceramics and experimenting with glaze formulas inspired in part by historic Chinese wares. The underside bears the incised Van Briggle conjoined AA logo within a rectangular frame, together with the hand-inscribed wording Van Briggle, Colo. Spgs. The Colorado Springs pottery was founded in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle and became one of the leading American art-pottery workshops of the early 20th century
