AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage A.C. Gilbert Company No. 6½ Erector construction set, copyright 1948, housed in the original red painted steel carrying case measuring 16" x 8.25" x 2.75" deep. The case contains a substantial assortment of period metal components, including perforated base plates, girders, truss sections, angle strips, braces, axles, pulleys, gears, wheels, red painted panels, hardware and an Erector wrench. An assembled structural framework with pulleys remains among the contents. The fitted side compartment and divided interior provided organized storage for the various construction parts. The exterior retains an illustrated ERECTOR ~ “THE WORLD’S GREATEST TOY” label depicting a child assembling a large structural model. The interior lid carries the colorful No. 6½ ALL ELECTRIC label and identifies the A.C. Gilbert Company of New Haven, Connecticut. The red metal case is fitted with two front latches and a carrying handle. Introduced by inventor and Olympic athlete Alfred Carlton Gilbert in 1913, the Erector system used interchangeable perforated girders, plates, wheels, gears and related hardware to teach structural and mechanical principles through model building. CONDITION REPORT > Offered as discovered with age-related surface wear, oxidation, dust and finish loss throughout the case and contents. The exterior and interior paper labels exhibit staining, fading, abrasions and losses. Contents have not been individually inventoried, and completeness is not guaranteed. The reversing electric motor advertised on the interior label is not included.
