EAPG Early AMERICAN PRESSED GLASS SAWTOOTH BOWL

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Despite our inability to attribute to a specific glass firm, or identify a pattern, this substantial antique clear pressed-glass bowl stands 3.5" tall, measures 8" in diameter, weighing a notable 3 pounds is certainly a striking example of early American pressed glass. The heavy circular form rises to a deeply scalloped sawtooth rim, producing the brilliant appearance of intricately cut crystal through elaborate mold-pressed decoration. The sides are arranged in distinct horizontal bands. An upper border features repeating geometric medallions centered by radiating stars and enclosed within pointed diamond frameworks. Beneath, a continuous band of sweeping overlapping leaf or feather forms encircles the bowl, alternating sharply defined ridges with finely textured grounds. The base is dominated by a large multi-point star or floral rosette composed of elongated pointed petals, crosshatched fields and geometric facets. A surrounding ring alternates smaller stars with deeply molded block and cross motifs, creating a dense symmetrical pattern that reflects light dramatically. Produced during the early 20th-century popularity of pressed table glass designed to imitate expensive hand-cut crystal. Unmarked; the precise maker and factory pattern remain unidentified.
