McKEE GLASS ROTEC PRESCUT 8.5" MASTER BERRY BOWL

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Antique McKee Glass Company master berry bowl standing 4" at the tallest point, measuring 8.5" in diameter across the rim and weighing a substantial 3 lbs. Produced in clear pressed glass, the bowl is identified as the ROTEC pattern, introduced circa 1910 and also recorded under the collector designation ROTEC (OMN). The deeply molded design was created to imitate the brilliance and complexity of hand-cut glass, with concentric arrangements of circular button motifs, crosshatched diamonds, pointed fans, stippled panels and a radiating starburst center. The heavy walls rise into a boldly scalloped rim, producing the sharply faceted, light-catching appearance associated with McKee’s PRESCUT tableware. McKee introduced its PRESCUT line in the early 20th century as an affordable alternative to costly American Brilliant Period cut glass. The decoration was formed primarily in the mold, with selected finishing used to enhance the cut-glass effect. ROTEC belonged to McKee’s extensive family of “tec” patterns, which included Aztec, Toltec, Fentec and numerous related geometric designs. The large form served as a master berry bowl, intended to hold fruit, berries or desserts at the center of a coordinated table service, with individual berry bowls used for serving each place setting
