NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > An early-version Ertl John Deere Model 20 pedal tractor measuring approximately 38.5" long × 19.5" wide × 26.25" tall, based on published dimensions for this specific model. Constructed as a heavy cast-metal ride-on toy, the tractor features green-painted bodywork, yellow wheel centers, dual front wheels, large treaded rear tires, black ribbed pedals, a pressed-metal seat, three-spoke metal steering wheel and rear implement hitch. Produced in 1963. this example corresponds with the early Model D63 version of the John Deere 20. Collector references distinguish the D63 from the later D65 by differences in the castings around the rear hubs, rims and axle retainers. The early D63 casting has little or no open space beneath the rear hub area, while the later D65 casting was revised. The pressed star-form rear wheel centers visible here are also associated with early production examples. The toy was manufactured by The Ertl Company of Dyersville, Iowa, and modeled after the contemporary styling of John Deere’s New Generation tractors, particularly the 3020 and 4020 series. The side panels retain the yellow ~ JOHN DEERE ~ decals and applied ~ 20 ~ model numbers. Molded engine, grille and body details reproduce the appearance of a full-size farm tractor in child-sized pedal form. The tractor appears substantially complete with the original-style steering wheel, seat, pedals, front wheel assembly, rear wheels, hitch and steering linkage remaining present. A later checkered-flag sticker has been added to the upper hood and is not part of the original John Deere graphics. CONDITION REPORT > A substantial early Ertl pedal tractor retaining an honest play-worn appearance and original green finish ~ No obvious fracture or welded repair is visible in the images offered. Typical age and play wear includes some paint loss, scratches, abrasions, oxidation and surface discoloration across the seat, steering wheel, wheels, hub areas and exposed hardware. The side decals remain present with fading, wear and losses. The cream-painted seat has broad finish loss and oxidation. Rear wheel centers show heavy surface rust, while the rubber tires exhibit a degree of age and wear. Steering and pedal functions are functional. An appealing original example for collection, display or restoration.
