FEDERAL Manner BRASS & GLASS HURRICANE CANDLE LAMP

NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > An impressive solid brass and clear glass hurricane candle lantern standing approximately 26" tall to the eagle finial and measuring approximately 10" in diameter overall across the slightly splayed legs. The tall tripod frame supports a removable clear glass candle bowl beneath a separate glass smoke bell. The cylindrical glass bowl is held within a decorative brass band and contains a central brass socket fitted with a white taper candle. Above, the shallow domed smoke bell is suspended from the center standard to help deflect rising heat and candle smoke while leaving the flame visible through the surrounding glass. Three slender brass supports rise into arched shoulders beneath a cast eagle finial, while the legs terminate in small curled feet. The eagle crest, warm brass construction, symmetrical tripod frame, and restrained classical ornament place the piece within the American Federal Revival tradition. Eagle finials and related patriotic motifs became recurring decorative elements in Federal style lighting and later twentieth-century reproductions inspired by early American interiors. Similar brass and glass Federal style lanterns were produced during the mid to late twentieth century, this being a rather scarce example. The unusually tall form provides striking presence for a hearth, mantel, entry hall, dining room, library, covered porch, holiday arrangement, or traditional interior. The removable glass components also permit convenient access to the candle.
