AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > This notable Schumacher wool rug measures approximately 74.5" × 46" as presently laid and exhibits substantial unraveling and separation along the upper edge, with loose foundation and face yarns visible. Professional stabilization, reattachment, and rebinding would be a worthwhile undertaking for a designer rug of this character and could produce a notable increase in both presentation and market value. Until repaired, the damaged edge should be handled carefully and should not be vacuumed with a rotating brush. The reverse retains a cloth label stamped ~ MADE IN INDIA ~ FOR ~ SCHUMACHER ~ NEW YORK ~ 100% WOOL ~. The face presents a thick, hand-worked looped or chain-stitched appearance upon a woven foundation, although the precise production technique is not stated on the surviving label. The design follows the French Aubusson Revival tradition, centered by a floral wreath in muted rose, cream, pale blue, and green tones. Symmetrical foliate scrolls, stylized acanthus leaves, geometric cartouches, floral corner medallions, and layered borders are worked across a soft cream field framed in pale celadon green. Similar European-inspired floral rugs were produced in India for Western decorative markets during the later twentieth century. F. Schumacher & Co. supplied fabrics, wallcoverings, carpets, and related decorative furnishings to the American interior-design trade, and the Schumacher name gives this example added interest for collectors of traditional designer furnishings. The restrained pastel palette and French court-inspired ornament are especially suited to English country, French Provincial, grandmillennial, cottage, formal bedroom, dressing room, foyer, or traditional parlor interiors. CONDITION REPORT > Significant unraveling and separation are present at a point along one short edge as shown in the images offered, with loose yarns, displaced binding, and exposed foundation material, Additional scattered spots, surface soil, wear, pulled fibers, and age-related elements are present overall. Professional cleaning and restoration would be worthy.
