Vintage MOROCCAN HAND TOOLED LEATHER POUF OTTOMAN

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage Moroccan leather pouf or ottoman standing approximately 12" tall × 14" in diameter, retaining a firm and substantial interior filling. The rounded form is assembled from hand-stitched leather panels and finished in a warm honey-orange tone with naturally developed surface variation. The circular top features an eight-pointed geometric medallion composed of individually tooled leather panels, patterned borders, and concentric stitched rings. Red, black, dark brown, and cream leather appliqués provide vivid contrast, while repeated stamped floral and geometric motifs decorate the surrounding panels. The sides are divided by vertical tooled bands with scrolling and linear ornament. The underside is enclosed by a circular leather panel secured through hand-punched openings with a traditional leather lace closure rather than a modern zipper. This construction allowed the pouf to be opened and filled locally with cloth, fiber, or other available material. Comparable hand-tooled leather poufs were produced by Moroccan artisans in Fez, Marrakesh, and other traditional leatherworking centers throughout the later twentieth century. Based on the hand tooling, appliqué decoration, naturally aged leather, stitched construction, and lace-up underside, this example most likely dates from approximately the 1970s to 1980s. The compact size provides use as a footstool, low ottoman, floor seat, decorative accent, or small side surface in Moroccan, Mediterranean, Bohemian, eclectic, or global-inspired interiors.
