AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Offered as -4- examples of vintage American metalware table service, weighing approximately 1 pound as a group, comprising a 7-inch Wilton plate and three matching 3.75-inch Stieff pewter butter pats. The larger Wilton plate has a shallow depressed center surrounded by a broad raised flange rim with a molded scalloped border. Its underside carries the impressed WILTON maker’s mark associated with Wilton products manufactured in Columbia, Pennsylvania. The three smaller round dishes have shallow centers, raised flange rims and molded outer borders. Each is marked STIEFF PEWTER, P45-7 and bears the shield-form ATC certification mark of the American Pewter Guild. The Stieff P45-7 dishes were produced as individual butter pats or small table dishes. The American Pewter Guild certification mark dates their production no earlier than the guild’s establishment in 1958 and identifies them as qualifying American-made tin-based pewter. The Stieff Company of Baltimore became an important producer of American pewter tableware during the mid-to-late 20th century, supplying domestic and institutional lines in traditional Colonial-inspired forms. Wilton produced decorative and functional American metalware in Columbia, Pennsylvania, including traditional pewter and later proprietary alloy tableware. Because the larger plate is marked WILTON but not specifically PEWTER, it is cataloged as Wilton metalware rather than attributed to a particular alloy. Together, the four dishes form a coordinated grouping of vintage American tableware suitable for butter service, bread, desserts, condiments, small servings or decorative display.
