High-quality glazed porcelain Imperial German Bavarian Reservistenkrug commemorating service with the 3. Bayerisches Pionier-Bataillon, Ingolstadt, 1911-1913. Standing approximately 9.5" tall and 4" wide, the stein is richly decorated with polychrome scenes of Ingolstadt, military bridge-building and river operations, centered around the Bavarian coat of arms with pioneer engineer insignia. The lower border is personalized "Pionier Auerbach," identifying the original owner. Printed rosters of officers and enlisted personnel flank the handle on both sides. The heavy pewter domed lid features floral repoussé decoration, a locomotive finial symbolizing military railway engineering, and a lion-form thumb lift. The interior retains its original lithophane depicting the traditional farewell scene of a soldier and his sweetheart. The porcelain remains clean with bright colors and sharp detail, exhibiting light interior staining, minor rim and base wear, and natural oxidation to the pewter mounts. This is an excellent Imperial German reservist stein documenting service with one of Bavaria's pioneer engineering battalions immediately before the First World War. BP/SW
