Glazed ceramic Imperial German Reservistenkrug (reservist commemorative beer stein) standing 11" high x 4" wide. The body is decorated with a finely detailed polychrome transfer scene captioned "Das Landwehr Regiment Nr. 19 der Kummerschen Division Erstürmt das Dorf St. Remy," depicting the assault on the village of Saint-Rémy during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Decorative oak-leaf border bands frame the scene. The pewter domed lid is richly embossed with crossed weapons, laurel foliage, and the reservist motto "Reserve hat Ruh," and is surmounted by a figural infantryman wearing a Pickelhaube and holding a rifle. An eagle-form thumb lift secures the lid. The interior retains its original lithophane depicting a classical seated female figure, visible when the stein is held to the light. The stein remains in very good condition with vivid decoration, a complete pewter mount, and no visible structural damage. Produced during the Imperial German period, circa 1895-1910, this is a classic Bavarian-style reservist stein commemorating military service through patriotic imagery and historical battle scenes.
