WWII RLB Air-Raid Medical Chest - Large & Full

Comprehensive WWII German Reichsluftschutzbund, or RLB, civilian air-raid medical instruction and first-aid chest designated Laienhilfe-Stube Nr. 1. The finger-jointed pine trunk measures 19.5" x 27.5" x 7.75" and weighs approximately 43 pounds. The lid retains its original printed RLB emblem and the slogan "Erfülle deine Luftschutz-Pflicht! Ausbildung durch den Reichsluftschutzbund," translating to “Fulfill your air-raid protection duty! Training through the Reich Air Protection League.” Faint property and administrative markings include references to Stuttgart. The partitioned interior contains an extensive assortment of civil-defense medical equipment, instructional publications and related supplies. Included are a gray-green metal Luftschutzverbandkasten with an interior inventory chart listing treatments for mechanical injuries, burns, phosphorus burns and chemical-agent exposure; four brown leather Luftschutz-Sanitätstaschen with printed contents labels; German medical manuals and civil-defense publications, including Der Zivile Luftschutz and a 1936 Lehrbuch der Militärhygiene; surgical clamps, scissors and forceps; packaged bandages, dressings, Verbandwatte, Zellstoff-Watte, gauze, cotton, adhesive tape, casualty tags and assorted medical tins. The leather cases retain various manufacturer, property and date markings. Visible examples include a Gebr. Reinhardt, Melsungen case dated 1939 and another marked Berckemeyer & Comp. and dated 1941. One case is hand marked “Feld-Laz. G.D.” The exact meaning and date of this hand-applied marking have not been confirmed and it should not be interpreted as documented Großdeutschland Division provenance without supporting records. One interior label bears an inspection or pharmacy stamp dated March 1940. Additional contents include labeled Schinkenberger pharmacy bottles, amber glass bottles with B. Braun, Melsungen caps, Hartmann dressings, umbilical and burn bandages, French military dressing packets, a Kriegsmarine-marked 300 gram Notverpflegung emergency-ration tin, a pair of reported RAD-marked shears dated 1940, and assorted period medical and civil-defense supplies. The chest retains bold exterior decoration, original wooden partitions, metal hardware and carrying handle. The grouping displays expected age and service wear, including staining, scratches, fading, oxidation, leather scuffing, paper toning and deterioration to some wrappers and labels. The chest contains numerous wartime-dated and period-manufactured components but has not been checked item by item against every printed inventory. Some consumable supplies may be wartime replacements, captured material, postwar substitutions or later additions. All medicines, liquids and medical products are expired, untested and sold solely as historical collectibles. Bottles may contain unidentified residue and should not be opened, consumed or used. GE
