A set of six blue and white transfer-printed earthenware dinner plates by Sewell of Newcastle upon Tyne, decorated in the traditional Willow pattern. The central landscape scene depicts pagodas, a willow tree, a boat, and a bridge with three figures, with two birds in flight above. This central composition is enclosed by multiple decorative borders featuring geometric lattice and floral motifs. Each plate has a slightly lobed circular form. The reverse of the plates features a circular blue transfer-printed backstamp with the maker's name SEWELL and location NEWCASTLE ON TYNE surrounding the pattern name WILLOW, all surmounted by a crown. Diameter approx. 24 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The set exhibits widespread crazing to the glaze throughout. Significant brownish staining and foxing are present, primarily visible on the reverse of the plates. There are minor chips and small losses along the rims. Surface scratching and localised dark staining are evident in the central wells.
