This is an exquisite 13-inch antique German bisque shoulder-head nun doll appearing to have been crafted by Gebrüder Knoch, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The porcelain head is incised with mold number 181 and a quality-control "X" marking in suggestion of the maker. Features include a luminous bisque complexion, inset glass sleep eyes, delicately painted lashes and brows, and an open mouth showing tiny molded teeth. She wears her original factory gusseted kid leather body with movable pinned joints at hips and knees, intact molded porcelain lower arms, and historically accurate multi-layered Catholic nun's habit: forehead band, wimple collar, long black gown, black veil, dark knit stockings, and metal crucifix. The married shoes are pinned to the feet. | A couple of items may be remakes or married. Body shows age-appropriate surface wear, some soiling, stitching at joints, minor seam separation at upper arms, and light hand discoloration.
