Title: Pop Portrait of a Blonde Woman with a Turquoise Face Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 11.5 x 8 inches (29.2 x 20.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, opaque coloration and visible, loose brushwork in the hair and shadows. A small pale spot is visible in the yellow hair at upper right, and the tan sheet shows light toning and minor marks along the edges consistent with age and handling. No significant tears, losses, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities may be present. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A bold, close-cropped head-and-shoulders portrait of a woman that fills nearly the entire vertical sheet, set against the bare tan of the paper. Her face is painted in a flat, unmodulated field of pale turquoise and sky blue, with features reduced to a few graphic accents: heavy black brows, white eyeshadow, dark half-closed eyes, a simplified shadowed nose, a small white beauty mark, and full lips in deep red outlined in black. A voluminous cap of curled hair in lemon yellow surrounds the face, broken by loose, brushy patches of dark olive and black that describe shadows and curls. A broad mass of charcoal black wraps around the jaw and neck, flattening the form and pushing the face forward, while a touch of red appears at the lower right edge as a collar or garment. The intentional misalignment between color areas and drawn features, the artificial palette, and the glamorous, iconic presentation recall the graphic vocabulary of Pop Art celebrity portraiture, here translated into a loose, hand-painted idiom. Along the lower right edge, running vertically, an ink inscription reads "Andy Warhol." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
