Title: Night Harbor Promenade Beneath a Swirling Starry Sky Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 17 x 37 inches (43.2 x 94.0 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with vivid coloration and heavy, sculptural impasto, particularly in the swirling sky, the stars, and the reflections on the water. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a wide, deeply carved gilt frame with repeating sculpted scroll and rosette ornament, showing variations in the gilded finish and darker toning within the recesses. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Moved from the private collection of the Rossi family in Milan to the private collection of the Ferrari family in Bologna. Visual Description: A panoramic nocturne in an elongated horizontal format, showing a seaside town strung along a curving waterfront beneath a turbulent night sky. The upper half of the canvas is filled with great coiling spirals and wave-like bands of cobalt, ultramarine, cerulean, white, and pale yellow, punctuated by glowing stars and moons ringed in concentric halos of gold and cream. Below, a range of dark blue and violet mountains rolls across the width of the composition, its slopes streaked with lighter blue and lavender strokes. Along the shoreline, a continuous row of houses with red, coral, and terracotta roofs and facades in cream, yellow, pink, and pale blue curves from the left edge toward the lower right, their ground floors lit by warm golden awnings and lamplight. A long pier extends into the bay at center. The water in the foreground is a deep blue expanse broken by short horizontal strokes of turquoise and white, with vertical streaks of gold and yellow reflecting the lights of the town and the sky. The swirling, rhythmic brushwork, the dark outlines, and the strong contrast of luminous yellows against deep blues reflect the visual language of Post-Impressionist nocturnal landscape painting. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading "Vincent." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
