Title: Sailboat on a Colorful Pointillist Seascape Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 11 x 13 inches (27.9 x 33.0 cm) Year: Undated Condition: The artwork presents a densely colored surface composed of numerous small, individually applied marks of pigment. No obvious major tears, significant losses, or substantial surface damage are apparent in the supplied photograph. The paper's edges and reverse are concealed by the framing and have not been inspected. Presented in a gold-tone frame with a decorative beaded inner border, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Moved by private transfer from the private collection of the Yoshida family in Tokyo to the private collection of the Inoue family in Sendai. Visual Description: A luminous maritime composition depicting a sailboat navigating calm coastal waters, rendered through a dense arrangement of small, multicolored marks characteristic of the Pointillist visual tradition. The central vessel features a tall mast and triangular sails in soft shades of rose, peach, lavender, and cream, outlined by dark rigging. Its hull is painted in contrasting tones of green, red, and deep blue, with colorful reflections extending into the water beneath it. The surrounding sea is constructed from countless individual touches of turquoise, pale blue, yellow, violet, pink, green, and warm ochre. These fragmented colors create a shimmering optical effect, suggesting sunlight moving across the water's surface. Two smaller boats appear in the distance, one toward the left and another near the right horizon, establishing depth and reinforcing the maritime setting. The horizon is relatively low, allowing the expansive sky to occupy much of the upper composition. The sky is filled with closely arranged dots and short strokes of pastel color, producing a vibrant atmospheric field that visually connects with the sea below. The repeated application of contrasting pigments creates a rhythmic, mosaic-like surface while preserving the recognizable forms of the sailing vessels. A painted signature reading "Seurat" appears near the lower-left corner. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
