Title: Man in a Bowler Hat Before a Curtained Sea Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 19 x 27 inches Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The surface shows smooth, carefully blended paint with crisp contours and good color, and the canvas weave shows through in places. Minor surface wear may be present. Presented in a gold-toned frame with visible wear and red undertone showing along the edges. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Miami, Florida. Visual Description: A Surrealist-inspired composition of a man in a dark blue coat and bowler hat, seen from behind as he stands on an orange beach facing the sea. Two blue curtains tied back at the sides hang from a pale oval form that floats above him and holds a glowing yellow sky. Through the opening, a sunset sky of orange and yellow lights a sailboat at the left and a gray house among dark trees on an island at the right. Waves with white crests roll toward the shore, and the curtains cast long shadows across the sand. Above, three pale floating blocks are set among dark blue clouds, with a full moon at the upper right. The work bears an inscription reading “Magritte” in black at the lower left. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
