Title: Village Tower Beyond a Still River Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 15 x 23 inches (38.1 x 58.4 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The surface shows layered, broken brushwork with textured impasto and good color. Minor surface wear may be present. The reverse shows toning, scattered staining, applied labels, stamp marks, and splits and losses to the lower stretcher bar. Presented in a gold-toned frame with scrolling relief. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Pordenone, Italy. Visual Description: An Impressionist-inspired river landscape with still water filling the lower half of the canvas, reflecting the bank in strokes of green, blue, orange and lavender. At the left, a tree with red, orange and yellow foliage stands beside a slender pale-trunked tree crowned in blue and green. Beyond a sunlit yellow-green meadow, a village with a dark-roofed tower and white houses sits among russet shrubs. Two tall poplars rise at the right against green rolling hills. The sky is laid in with soft strokes of white, pale blue, yellow and pink. The work bears an inscription reading “Claude Monet” in black at the lower right. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
