Title: Farmhouses, Olive Trees and Cypresses Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 15 x 23 inches (38.1 x 58.4 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The surface shows thick, directional brushwork with textured impasto and strong color. Minor surface wear may be present. The reverse shows toning, scattered staining, applied labels and stamp marks. Presented in an ornate gold-toned frame with scrolling relief and a beaded inner edge. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Jacksonville, Florida. Visual Description: A Post-Impressionist-inspired rural scene of two farmhouses with pale pink walls and green and ochre roofs set in a golden field. Rounded olive trees in turquoise and green, their dark trunks outlined in black, stand in the foreground and middle ground. Tall dark cypresses rise behind the houses on both sides, with violet mountains visible at the left and right. The field is laid in with short, sweeping strokes of yellow, orange and ochre, crossed by violet and blue shadows. The sky is bright blue with light white strokes. The work bears an inscription reading “Vincent” in black at the lower right. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
