This large-scale oil on canvas depicts a tranquil autumnal landscape scene. The composition features a calm, open body of water under a pale blue sky with light cloud cover, flanked by dense woodland with foliage rendered in vibrant shades of ochre, orange, and gold. A small white-walled cottage with a pitched, textured roof is nestled among the trees to the right foreground. The work is executed in a mid-to-late 20th-century decorative style, utilising heavy impasto and palette knife application to create high-relief texture on the bark of the prominent foreground tree trunk and the dabs of autumn leaves. The painting is signed in the lower right corner in white script reading Hennesy. It is housed in a broad, ornate gilt-finished composite frame featuring a white wooden inner slip and foliate scrollwork decoration at the corners and centres. The verso reveals the canvas stretched over a standard wooden stretcher frame and fitted with a hanging wire. Dimensions read from a tape measure showing inches only: H approx. 30.5 inches x W approx. 55 inches. Condition: The canvas remains taut on its stretcher frame. The paint layers are stable overall, with the heavy impasto securely adhered and showing no signs of flaking, paint loss, or significant craquelure. A light layer of surface dirt and dust is present. The ornate frame shows minor surface wear, light scuffs, and small abrasions to the gilt finish along the outer edges and corners, but remains structurally sound.
