Leather Snuff Patch Box Brass Frame. Dating to the late 18th century (c. 1780s–1790s), this exquisite Georgian or French Revolutionary era circular snuff or patch box measures approximately 2.75 inches in diameter by 1 inch high and features a dark textured leather-wrapped composition body with brass collar trims. The snug-fitting lid houses a hand-painted miniature portrait under glass of a stylish period lady in an elaborate feathered hat, framed within a beaded brass bezel setting. Popular across Europe as a luxury personal vanity accessory for holding snuff or silk beauty patches, this unsigned piece presents in delicate antique condition with an authentic age patina, exhibiting heavy darkening, rubbing, and scuffing on the leather exterior, tarnish and light verdigris on the brass fittings, and noticeable surface flaking, pigment loss, and foxing to the miniature portrait beneath the glass.
