AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 40" square, this medium-weight cotton-linen textile has a somewhat textured woven surface and an exceptionally detailed printed scene in warm brown, ivory, blue, red and black tones. The cultural imagery appears Japanese, depicting a traditional festival or ceremonial procession with multiple portable shrine-like structures, decorated towers, attendants, musicians and groups of figures moving through the scene. Several participants carry or gather around ornate mikoshi-style festival shrines, while other figures appear beside raised platforms and banners. Stylized clouds, trees and architectural elements complete the composition. The color palette and fine line work are especially striking, with the warm brown fields contrasting sharply against the pale ground and small areas of blue, red and black throughout the figures and structures. The overall effect is highly decorative and narrative, more like a textile illustration than a conventional floral tablecloth. A distinctive vintage textile with strong Japanese, Asian ethnic decorative arts, festival, folk culture and collector appeal. CONDITION REPORT > Stored safely. This textile has not been recently laundered but has no overt odor. Perhaps typical and minor elements relative to age, minimal use and materials.
