NO SHIPPING - LOCAL PICKUP ONLY DISPLAY ITEMS NOT INCLUDED > The demitasse cups and saucers shown in the photographs are not included with the stand and are offered separately in other lots in this auction. Standing 54" tall, measuring 18" across the widest point at the back edge of the lowest shelf and 7" deep overall from the most extended scallop to the lower shelf, this slender multi-tier whatnot or etagere display stand is fashioned in wood with a warm cherry finish. The vertical form is especially decorative, with a succession of shaped display shelves supported by turned spindle columns, numerous turned finials and a distinctive carved and pierced fan-form crown rising above the upper shelf. The shelf fronts have softly shaped, scalloped contours that repeat through the tiers and give the otherwise narrow structure a graceful Victorian-inspired profile. Often referred to as a whatnot stand, this type of furniture was intended for the display of small treasured objects such as porcelain, figurines, miniature collectibles and decorative curios. The unusually narrow footprint provides considerable display height while occupying very little floor space, making the piece particularly attractive for a parlor, dining room, bedroom or collection display. CONDITION REPORT > Perhaps typical and minor elements relative to age, use and materials ~ Seemingly a well preserved example.
