AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 40" x 24" overall, vintage 100 lb. burlap potato sack. Offered empty, shown stuffed in the photograph only to demonstrate the original form and decorative presentation possibility. The sack features bold red and blue lithographed advertising reading 100 LBS. NET, THE NORTHERN LINE IS MIGHTY FINE, Northern, GROWN IN THE RED RIVER VALLEY, POTATOES, PRODUCE OF U.S.A., and ALL NATURAL, centered around a large blue flying waterfowl graphic. The Red River Valley of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota has long been one of the major potato-growing regions of the United States, with commercial promotion of “northern grown” Red River Valley potatoes documented well before the mid-20th century. The regional growers organized formally in 1946 as the Red River Valley Potato Growers Association, later known as the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association. Vintage 100 lb. Red River Valley potato sacks survive today in a variety of regional brands and advertising designs, and comparable examples are collected as agricultural advertising and Americana rather than simply as utilitarian packaging. Current secondary-market examples are commonly offered as vintage Red River Valley potato sacks for farmhouse, primitive and wall decor. The coarse natural burlap, oversized period-style lettering and strong red-and-blue graphics give this example particularly good country kitchen, farmhouse, cottagecore, primitive, agricultural advertising and decorator appeal. It could be displayed stuffed, folded, framed, hung as wall art or repurposed as a decorative textile accent. CONDITION REPORT > Perhaps typical and minor elements relative to age, use and materials.
