AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage Charvos No. 9774 drafting and precision drawing instrument set, marked Made in U.S.A., housed in the original fitted folding case. The case measures 13" x 10.5" when opened and fully extended to reveal the instruments. The set includes multiple metal compasses, dividers, interchangeable points, extensions and drafting attachments arranged within the deep blue fitted interior. Instruments of this type were used by engineers, architects, draftsmen, machinists and technical students for precise circles, arcs, measurements and geometric layouts before computer-aided drafting became standard. Charvos was associated with the Charvoz drafting-instrument enterprise established in the United States before World War II, producing and distributing precision drawing instruments and related technical equipment for professional and educational use. Charvos U.S.A. instruments are documented from the 1940s era forward, and examples are represented in the collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. The set retains a substantial number of original components, though several instruments or elements are lacking, as shown. The metal tools exhibit age-related tarnish, oxidation and surface wear, while the blue fitted lining shows dust, staining and general age. The exterior case shows surface and edge wear, with one snap receiver separated from the cover, leaving an opening at the flap. CONDITION REPORT > Set is incomplete and lacking several instruments or components, as shown. One snap receiver is separated from the cover. Interior lining shows dust, staining and wear. A candidate for cleaning and restoration, as the metal instruments show age-related tarnish, oxidation and surface wear.
