AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Substantial Joppa Mountain stoneware pottery covered jar, standing 10" tall, measuring 7-8" in diameter at the shoulder and weighing a notable 4.5+ lbs. The heavy vessel is formed with a rounded bulbous body, narrowed neck and fitted domed lid, creating the appearance of a traditional storage or pantry jar rather than a conventional cookie jar. The exterior is distinguished by a complex variegated glaze treatment transitioning from blue-gray around the upper body into sandy tan and brick-red tones below, with visible glaze drips and natural speckling contributing considerable studio-pottery character. The lower portion retains a warm reddish-brown finish, while the shoulder displays layered earth tones beneath the cooler blue-gray glaze. The fitted lid provides the strongest decorative element, heavily modeled with applied figural grape clusters, broad grape leaves, twisting vines and an arched vine-form handle. Deep green glazed foliage surrounds dark blue grape clusters, while the sculpted vines are finished in deep brown tones, creating substantial relief and dimensionality above the comparatively restrained body. Underside is hand-incised with Joppa Mountain identification, date 2012, additional maker or production markings and a hand-drawn decorative symbol, all as photographed. An unusually heavy and visually substantial piece of contemporary studio stoneware combining functional covered-vessel form with sculptural vineyard decoration, well suited for display, kitchen or dining room use, or inclusion in a Southern studio pottery collection. CONDITION REPORT > A notably well preserved example ~ Quite the centerpiece in a kitchen, breakfast or dining room.
