AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Uncommon softcover gardening booklet titled Heirloom Plants for Southern Gardeners by Mississippi horticulturist, author and broadcaster Felder Rushing, longtime host of Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s Gestalt Gardener. Subtitled A short treatise on the kinds of plants grown by generations of real gardeners, the booklet focuses on traditional Southern heirloom and passalong plants preserved and shared through generations of home gardeners. Rushing is widely associated with Southern gardening, heirloom plants and the informal tradition of gardeners exchanging bulbs, cuttings, seeds and divisions from established family and neighborhood gardens. His writings and broadcasts have helped document many of these old-fashioned Southern garden plants and the stories surrounding them. This copy is personally autographed by Felder Rushing in blue ink to the interior, adjacent to a printed message thanking supporters of Mississippi Public Broadcasting and the weekly garden program. Also retained with the booklet is a small clear packet containing unidentified seeds, found together with this copy. The seed variety is unknown and no claim is made that the packet was standard issue with every booklet, although the pairing is especially appropriate to the booklet’s heirloom and passalong-plant subject matter. Illustrated throughout with photographs and information concerning traditional Southern plants valued for their beauty, fragrance, usefulness, wildlife appeal and longstanding place in home gardens. An unusual Mississippi gardening and broadcasting-related piece combining Southern horticultural history, an original Felder Rushing autograph and the accompanying packet of unidentified seeds. CONDITION REPORT > A notably well preserved example.
