AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Exceptional large-format reference volume Edward Marshall Boehm 1913-1969 by Frank J. Cosentino, published in 1970 by The Lakeside Press, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company. This substantial 264-page illustrated volume documents the life, career and porcelain artistry of American ceramist Edward Marshall Boehm, with extensive color and black-and-white photography of his celebrated birds, animals, flowers and other sculptural works. Bound in rich red with gilt borders and lettering, the front cover is mounted with the distinctive white porcelain Boehm horse-head emblem bearing the Boehm signature. The volume retains the matching red presentation slipcase with oval opening designed to expose the porcelain emblem when shelved. The volume is further distinguished by decorative marbled endpapers and gilt page edges, enhancing the presentation quality of the limited-edition binding. Of particular importance, this is one of only 3,500 limited-edition copies, with the limitation page specifically stating that the edition was signed by the artist’s wife, Mrs. Edward Marshall Boehm. Directly beneath that statement is Helen Boehm’s original handwritten signature in red ink, making the autograph an integral feature of this special limited edition. Published references and auction records confirm the 3,500-copy signed issue. The interior provides a broad examination of Boehm’s development as a ceramist, his highly detailed sculptural technique, the growth of the Boehm studio and the international recognition afforded his work. Lavishly illustrated pages include finished porcelain sculptures, studio photographs, portraits, design studies and close views of the elaborate naturalistic compositions for which Boehm became known. Also included with this example is a separate period informational card for Boehm’s Verdins sculpture, not normally part of the bound book. The card illustrates the completed porcelain composition and provides descriptive information concerning the Verdin bird, the design of the sculpture and the materials represented within the composition. It identifies the sculpture as issued in 1969, measuring 9" high x 9" wide x 7" deep, and announces an intended limited edition of 750 replicas. The combination of the original limited-edition signed volume, porcelain-mounted binding, matching presentation slipcase and separate period Verdins promotional card makes this a particularly attractive reference and display group for collectors of Boehm porcelain, American ceramics and wildlife sculpture. CONDITION REPORT > Some scuffing to the outer protective sleeve ~ Otherwise, a notably well preserved example.
