AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A compact 1893 Protestant Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, measuring 3.25" x 5" and containing 566 gold gilt edge pages, printed at Cambridge by J. & C.F. Clay at the University Press for James Pott & Company, New York. That exact 1893 Cambridge/Pott edition is independently documented in library records. The title page reads THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE SACRAMENTS AND OTHER RITES AND CEREMONIES OF THE CHURCH, ACCORDING TO THE USE OF THE PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TOGETHER WITH THE PSALTER OR PSALMS OF DAVID. The certification page is signed in print by Samuel Hart, Custodian of the Standard Book of Common Prayer, and dated January 1893. The book belongs to the important 1893 American Episcopal prayer-book tradition associated with the revision adopted by the church in 1892. Surviving institutional examples from that year likewise contain 566 pages and carry the same Protestant Episcopal liturgy and Psalter. This copy retains a black textured cover with gilt COMMON PRAYER lettering and a small gilt cross. Included as found are two religious bookmarks, one with illuminated-style lettering and another with a cross and white lilies. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered. Front cover is detached at the spine, with exterior wear and old tape repairs. The text block remains intact, and the pages are notably clean and legible considering the age, with scattered toning and spotting. Two religious bookmarks are included as found.
