AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial antique Bohemian porcelain cabinet plate ~ decorative charger, measuring 12.5" in diameter and weighing 2.25 lbs., produced by Victoria Schmidt & Co. of Stará Role ~ Alt Rohlau, Czechoslovakia, during the interwar period. The center carries a richly rendered neoclassical scene generally identified as Leda and the Swan, or a classical maiden attending a swan, with Cupid ~ Eros positioned above on a stone architectural element. The scene is surrounded by a broad gilt band and an exceptionally rich cobalt blue border decorated with elaborate gold gilt filigree, foliate scrollwork and repeating classical ornament. An outer cream-and-gold band completes the formal presentation. The underside carries multiple factory and decorator marks, including VICTORIA ~ CZECHO-SLOVAKIA, a Czecho-Slovakia mark within a gold crown, additional MADE IN lettering and a blue beehive ~ shield-style mark associated visually with Royal Vienna wares. The Victoria crown mark identifies production by Porzellanfabrik Victoria Schmidt & Co., founded in 1883 at Stará Role near Karlovy Vary; this form of Czecho-Slovakia marking was used during the 1918–1939 period. The beehive or shield device reflects the widespread Royal Vienna-style tradition used by later European porcelain factories and decorators. It should not be interpreted as a mark of the original Imperial and Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, which ceased production in 1864. The plate was clearly conceived as a highly decorative cabinet or display piece, combining Bohemian porcelain manufacture with the cobalt grounds, lavish gilding and classical figural imagery strongly associated with Royal Vienna-style decorative porcelain of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered ~ Seemingly well preserved ~ Perhaps typical or minor elements relative to age and materials.
