AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > An unusual vintage cobalt blue glass cocktail muddler ~ sugar crusher ~ stirring rod measuring 9" long, with a substantial teardrop-shaped terminal measuring close to 3/4" in diameter and a curved upper end resembling a Sherlock or churchwarden-style crook. The solid glass construction gives the piece an impressive weight of 4+ ounces. The long slender shaft terminates in a heavy rounded teardrop bulb designed to provide leverage and weight for muddling sugar, fruit, herbs or other cocktail ingredients. The opposing curved crook allows the implement to rest securely over the rim of a deep tumbler, mixing glass or other beverage vessel between uses. Glass implements of this type are commonly identified as cocktail muddlers, sugar crushers or stirring rods, forms developed for bar service before modern handled muddlers became commonplace. Period examples were used to break down hard sugar, crush cocktail ingredients and stir mixed drinks, with heavier bulbous terminals providing the working end. The rich cobalt color, unusually heavy construction and exaggerated hooked profile give the piece a particularly sculptural character among vintage bar accessories.
