Vintage JAPAN LUSTERWARE LANDSCAPE TEA SERVICE Set

AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A coordinated vintage Japanese porcelain tea service decorated with a detailed scenic landscape pattern in black, green, blue and warm earth tones, accented throughout with a soft lavender-silver metallic luster finish to the rims, handles, spout and finial. The set includes a tall covered coffee or tea pot, covered sugar bowl, six cups with matching saucers, and additional coordinating pieces as shown. Each piece is simply marked MADE IN JAPAN in red to the underside, without a specific factory name or pattern designation. The decoration depicts a stylized Japanese waterside landscape with trees, rocky banks, a small bridge and standing figure, repeated across the service in varying compositions. Fine black linework defines the trees and terrain, with hand-applied color accents in green, blue and orange-brown. The broad metallic lavender bands have the reflective, iridescent surface characteristic of Japanese lusterware, rather than ordinary flat enamel decoration. Japanese lusterware was produced extensively for export during the early-to-mid 20th century, particularly from the 1920s through the postwar period. The technique uses a metallic overglaze that produces a pearl-like or iridescent sheen after firing. Scenic landscape patterns, pagodas, bridges, flowering trees and stylized Asian figures were especially popular on export tea and coffee services. Comparable Made in Japan scenic lusterware sets are commonly dated from the 1920s through 1950s, although the simple red country-of-origin mark on this set does not permit a reliable attribution to a specific factory. The combination of the tall architectural pot, matching covered sugar, multiple cups and saucers, and extensive scenic decoration gives the set a strong period presentation for tea service, coffee service, cabinet display or a collection of vintage Japanese export porcelain.
