AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Offered as a matching pair of diminutive hand-thrown stoneware mugs attributed to Shearwater Pottery of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, signed with a stylized letter "A" indicating production by Jim Anderson. Each stands 2.5 inches tall and measures 2.5 inches in diameter across the upper rim, not including the extended handle. Both examples feature compact rounded bodies with pronounced horizontal throwing ridges, broad applied handles and variegated earth tone glaze treatments incorporating blue, gray, brown and cream coloration. The smaller scale gives the pair a distinctive form while retaining the substantial character associated with hand-thrown functional stoneware. The undersides carry an incised pottery mark consistent with Shearwater production. Shearwater Pottery was founded in Ocean Springs in 1928 by Peter Anderson and became one of Mississippi’s best known art potteries, with production continued by successive generations of the Anderson family. The pottery is especially associated with hand-thrown stoneware, individualized glaze effects and strong regional craftsmanship.
