Andrew Bone (b. 1957) — Deep Under Growth — Original Oil on Canvas, 2013. A striking original oil painting on canvas by noted African wildlife artist Andrew Bone, depicting a serval standing alert among tall golden grasses. Bone renders the animal with exceptional attention to the spotted coat, luminous eyes and oversized ears, set against a restrained tonal background that keeps the focus firmly on the subject. The painting is hand-signed in pigment lower right and is a unique original work, rather than one of Bone's numerous limited-edition wildlife prints. The accompanying Park West Gallery Certificate of Authenticity identifies the work as Deep Under Growth, dated 2013. The Park West paperwork also includes a 2014 gallery retail replacement appraisal of $7,600. Bone has an established secondary auction market, with more than 100 works appearing in auction databases; published results show his paintings reaching into the several-thousand-dollar range, although results vary considerably according to size, subject and medium. The fact that this is a documented one-of-a-kind oil, rather than a print, is important to its desirability. Artwork Dimensions: 20 1/8 × 21 3/4 inches. Framed Dimensions: 29.5 × 31 inches. Condition: Very good overall condition. The canvas appears well preserved with strong coloration and no obvious significant losses, tears or restoration visible. The painting is attractively presented in a substantial gilt, dark-finished and fabric-lined frame. Minor frame wear may be present consistent with display.
